Winter here we come!

I can’t believe we are almost at the end of 2023!! Where did the time go?

It’s already cozy season and I hope everyone is doing well. Things on the farm are going along very nicely. Some updates this year have been adding a new LGD to our family. As some of you are aware, we sadly lost our Great Pyrenees protector, Leesi, to cancer in 2020 and that started a cascade of predator issues ranging from bear, racoons, mink and even elk to challenge us to the hilt. Sadly we lost some of our treasured flocks.

This year has seen the training of our new guardian puppy, raising some new US imported Barbevelder stock, raising some imported Silverudd’s Blue (We are SO HAPPY to have them again!), and aquiring a stunning Ayam Cemani cock. We are not looking to breed pure Ayam Cemani, instead work on a project called Mystic Vista Blues that will entail a fibro bird that lays blue / green eggs.

We are feeling pretty winter ready so far with the firewood, hay and shavings all in, a right hand drive mini truck equipped with a snow plow, a generator and a new Ecoflow Portable Power Station, all good things to help when winter really hits and the power goes out. Anything to keep those chicks warm…

Next on the to-do list is to deworm the flocks. I am just waiting for a lull in laying to take advantage of that timing wise. I like to deworm them Spring and Fall. Currently we have chicks hatching bi weekly, and have our seasonal Gift Certificate offerings available while they last!
